Okay, so it turns out that I'm not very good at working with styles. This assignment frustrated me for days, and I'm not entirely happy with the results, but I don't hate what I came up with, either. I couldn't figure out how to make the style I was creating do what I wanted it to do (and not for lack of reading or trying, believe me), so I got as close as I could and even though it wasn't quite what I wanted, I made it work.
Bonus, though -- I got really interested in fonts this week and finally got around to figuring out how to download and install them from one of the websites on the class resources page, so that's something, at least. I think I installed close to 200 new fonts, so I call that a win. :)

I tried to make a style that looked like ice. I shouldn't have constructed it on a colored background; that was really dumb, because by the time I tried to apply it to text not on that color background, it was a completely different effect. But I actually liked the way the above image looked when I added the colored rectangle around the text anyway, so I decided not to mind.
Process:
- I made my style. I used bevel/emboss, inner glow, satin, and outer glow.
- I found the background image on Pixabay and set it as my background.
- I found an appropriately-frigid quote that I liked and added it with the text tool.
- I placed the rectangle (set to some decreased level of opacity) behind the text.
- Voila.
Design thoughts:
- Alright, this isn't my favorite piece I've ever made, but I don't totally hate it, either.
- I like how the font looks kind of like icicles, and how the overall effect of the style looks a little like when you draw on an icy window with your finger.
- I suppose this isn't technically "repetition," but I wanted the text to look icy to echo the snowy scene I used in the background.
