It turns out I'm really into the whole simple-graphic, minimalist, reduced-realism thing we've been learning about recently, so I wanted to play with that a whole lot more. It's really fun for me, and even though it was time-consuming, I really enjoyed putting this all together.

I really liked the calendar example (below) on our idea page this week, so I wanted to try my hand at making my own.
I don't know who the artist is, or I'd cite this.
Process:
- Well, it took freaking forever, but it was pretty easy to do. I just used the quick selection tool or the color range selector to select pieces of the source images. Then I used the eyedropper tool to pull colors from the source images and the paintbrush to fill the selections in. I used the gradient tool on about half of the skies.
- I also used the pen tool and the text tool to create the calendar portions that you can't see here, but I suppose that doesn't matter. Sigh.
Design thoughts:
- Reduced. Realism. Is. So. Much. Fun!!
- I didn't worry about capturing every single twist and turn or every single component of the source images; that wasn't the goal. Instead, I tried to just capture the essence of each image, simplified.
- I didn't introduce any crazy colors, I just kept to what was natural in the image.
